About Healing Pathways Osteopathy

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a holistic, hands-on approach to healthcare that promotes healing by focusing on the body's interconnected systems. Osteopathic physicians (DOs) specializing in Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (ONMM) use gentle manipulative techniques to address structural imbalances, relieve pain, and enhance function, supporting the body's natural ability to heal and promoting overall well-being.

What We Treat

We treat a wide-variety of acute and conditions such as:

  • headaches/migraines
  • sinusitis
  • neck pain
  • rib pain
  • low back pain
  • shoulder pain
  • pelvic pain/hip pain
  • knee pain
  • foot pain
  • pregnancy discomfort
  • constipation
  • anxiety (ask about AcuDetox)

We use a variety of hands-on techniques—including counterstain, myofascial release, joint mobilization, fascial distortion model (FDM), cranial work, and more.

Our holistic approach addresses the root causes of pain and dysfunction, aiming to restore balance and promote overall well-being. In addition to osteopathic treatments, we offer AcuDetox to help promote a sense of calm and support your body’s natural healing process.

Insurance

Currently, we do not accept private insurance or Medicare. However, we will provide you with a billing summary (also called a superbill) that you can submit to your private insurance company for possible reimbursement. Insurance reimbursement rates vary widely depending on your plan. We recommend contacting your insurance provider in advance to confirm whether they cover osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMT). We cannot provide a superbill for Medicare patients. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at jarman@healingpathwaysclinic.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

You can easily schedule a new patient appointment by clicking the "BOOK NOW" link. We also encourage you to call us at 503-404-3940 so we can discuss your needs and determine if our clinic is the right fit for you. This conversation allows us to understand your concerns and provide an honest assessment of how we can assist you.

To maximize your treatment time during the appointment, please complete the new patient forms in advance through the patient portal. If you don’t have access to an electronic device, we can either mail the forms to you or have them available for pickup at the office. Additionally, please remember to bring any copies of recent imaging with you.

Your first appointment typically lasts between 1.5 to 2 hours. During this time, we’ll discuss your medical history and review any recent imaging you may have. You’ll also undergo a thorough exam, followed by treatment if appropriate.

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing, such as stretchable pants or sweatpants, since treatments will be done through your clothes. You will need to remove shoes, belts, and any items from your pockets. Kindly avoid wearing jeans, skirts, or dresses.

If you are receiving AcuDetox (ear acupuncture), please bring something warm to wear, as the room may become cool during your session. A blanket can be provided upon request.

OMT is typically a very gentle treatment. You might experience some mild tenderness during the session, but this usually subsides quickly. After your visit, you could feel a bit sore. To help manage any discomfort, try staying well-hydrated, doing gentle stretches or light exercise, taking an Epsom salt bath, applying heat or ice, or getting a massage.

The time to see benefits from OMT varies for each person. Some feel relief after just one treatment, but lasting change usually takes time and multiple sessions. Making positive daily habit changes—like exercising or stretching, improving sleep, diet, and managing stress—is essential for long-term improvement.

The number of OMT (Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment) appointments you might need can vary depending on your specific health concerns, how your body responds to treatment, and lifestyle factors such as activity level, diet, sleep, and stress. For lasting results, especially if you have ongoing or chronic issues, 4–6 treatments are often recommended. Some people may notice improvement after just a few sessions, while others with chronic conditions might benefit from periodic maintenance visits to help manage symptoms and maintain progress.

Osteopathic physicians differ from chiropractors in both training and scope of practice. Doctors of Osteopathy are fully licensed physicians who use hands-on osteopathic techniques as part of a broader medical approach, allowing them to diagnose, prescribe medications, and manage complex health issues. Chiropractors, on the other hand, focus mainly on spinal adjustments and musculoskeletal alignment, without the ability to provide full-spectrum medical care. This makes osteopathic practitioners uniquely equipped to integrate manual therapy with comprehensive medical management.

We treat patients of all ages, from newborns to older adults. Osteopathy is generally safe and effective for people at any stage of life and can be tailored to address a wide variety of conditions across the lifespan.

We cannot refill prescriptions written by another provider. If we have prescribed medication to you ourselves, we would be happy to consider refilling it if appropriate.

We do not prescribe narcotics. If you are seeking pain medication, please consult your primary care provider or a pain specialist for further assistance.

We accept cash, check, credit or debit cards.

Currently, we do not accept private insurance. However, we will provide you with a patient billing summary (also called a superbill) that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Insurance reimbursement rates vary widely depending on your plan. We recommend contacting your insurance provider in advance to confirm whether they cover osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMT).We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

At this time, we do not accept Medicare. Our practice has opted out of the Medicare program, so we are unable to provide a patient billing summary for reimbursement. We will ask you to sign a private contract confirming that we will not bill Medicare and that you will not seek reimbursement from Medicare for our services. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

We are currently not taking any patients that have an open personal injury case. We apologize for any inconvenience that this might cause.
